I just read through the entire thread and watched your videos. Great work on this car. It looks like a load of fun!

Nice puller! We've been working on some aero, and duct work for the radiator. Decided to tip the radiator to get better flow up and out of the hood, instead of over the engine. No pics, but we've started a diffuser too.

Wow, I like what y'all have done with this radiator fitment. I assume you will have to bleed the air somewhere up on the engine. And the splitter is something I have to get started on. Keep me posted on how that works out. With anything racing related, I assume you will build 2 because the chance of something happening to that one is high.

brawls43 Mar 20, 2017 06:41 AM

We added an aluminum coolant tank like the stock, and relocated it. Its also highest point now. And one of my teammates picked up a vacuum bleeding/filling system also. So hopefully we're covered. Oh and yes, we're building pretty much 2 of everything, and the system is all meant to come out easily for replacement, or repair. The whole nose comes off quickly now too, which will make any future engine swaps easier as well. Hopefully will hit our first track day in 3 weeks for a shakedown.

A few items to update on the car. All wheel bearings gone through again. Radiator is back to stock due to sanctioning body rule change, rear toe arms back to stock for same reason, alignment, fuel system back to using fuel pump ecu to fire relays (old one burned up), lexan in the rear window and rear side windows, a few other odds and ends. Ready to go race at Circuit of the Americas next weekend, double 8 hour races Saturday and Sunday. Should be epic.

Good luck at COTA! Don't do what one of our guys did at Road America....https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...4f16a25b4.jpegFML

Dang man sorry about your car. How were yall doing up until then?

brawls43 May 15, 2017 06:58 AM

Car was running well except the team didn't install the brake master cylinder correctly. We had tried the manual brake setup from Chase Bays, but didn't like it, and they accidently put the rear lines to front connection on the master. Strangely they kept locking the rears... Oops. Other then that, we're low in the power rating for WRL's GP1 class, so there were a bunch of faster cars out there. But it was everyone's first time at Road America, so it was more of a learning visit anyways. How was COTA?

So here is the quickest run down I can give. First day 15 minutes into the 8 hour race, we lose all gears but 4th. We decide to leave the car out there running in one gear while I finish putting together my spare W58 (really didn't think I would need it but threw it in the trailer just in case). He was doing surprisingly well so we kept him out until time for the driver swap. We did 2 more driver swaps with no issues and brought the car home in 7th place overall in a field of 61 cars. Not bad. Get this, a team that runs a Lexus like ours brought out a Mark IV Supra as a second car. Beautiful car, can't believe they put it in a race that could get it banged up given how valuable they are, but they did and it won on Saturday. That night, after taking the trans apart a couple of times trying to figure out where one of the interlock pins goes we put it in the car. We figure we are good to go. We start the Sunday race well, had it up to 3rd at one point with a fast E46 EC car in front of us, then about an hour and 45 min in just before I was getting in the car the tired engine popped. Really didn't want to run another race with this engine but the new one wasn't ready so we took a chance and it got us. So, we left Texas with a 7th place and a DNF along with a broken W58 and a dead motor. Hopefully the new build will be ready by NCM in June.

Thanks, when you can keep it together (like the other Lexus team did this weekend, us not so much) it not only holds it's own but can be quite dominant at a place like Circuit of the Americas. The BMW that ran faster than us was a non qualifier so he didn't really count, there were a couple of BMW's that were a match, a Honda Civic that was a touch quicker than us, and a Mustang that was a little quicker but would have to make an extra fuel stop which would have made them a non issue. I have said it before on this thread, great platform to build a race car from.

What didn't you like about the chase bays setup?

We just messed around and didn't get the engine back together before the NCM race, threw a rod Sunday at COTA. Odd failure, broke a rod bolt, all the bearings still looked good after 25 years and 180,000 miles. So had to pull the engine out of the parts car and go through it before putting it back in and we just didn't get finished due to other priorities. Sort of wish I had just stuck it in the car as it was, but a failure like that makes you rethink using older engines with no freshening. I really hated we missed y'all at NCM, the car is awesome on the full course so we could have given the leaders a good push. I wish we could make the 24, but we have a WRL race at Barber a week or two after the 24 so we can't do both. Let me know if you need a driver I will be in Wilmington the entire week before, I could hang around and drive up and do a stint or two if you need help. Or I could just help in the pits, I have some friends doing the race so could go back and forth to help out. I was considering doing that anyway.

Brawls, I really would like to know what you guys think the gain is with changing from stock on this too.
