1UZ-FE Individual Throttle Body (Project)
I've been (slowly) working on ITB's for my 1UZ-FE Compound Turbo engine.
I (originally) decided to make them in steel and use them as a plug for alloy versions later, below is the process of design and creation.
The flanges,
Test Fitting & Placement
Solving the (Head Angle vs. True level) Problem
Machined up injector plugs and angled (holed) bar.
Creating the manifolds.
Completing the Center Rotation point
The bracket was welded in place on the engine with the manifolds torqued down to the head, naturally its since been bent a tad.
316 Stainless Spindle / Bolt (and long nut)
Get's wide open throttle (but for adjustments)
Things I learned.
- It would have been cheaper just to buy these, in the end. but nowhere near as much fun.
- The center rotation point is quite critical to making these work correctly.
- the lower plate would be best machined from a 20mm plate, with the injector placement included, and the ports transistioned in the plate from the head shape to a round threaded opening to make going to the itb's alot easier. It would mean making the lower plate was harder and more expensive end result would be that one could change the ITB's height by varying the length of the threaded tube between the flanges. (neat idea when you think about it).
- Silver TOP 4age ITB's are best suited to the 1uz-fe. (not the larger black top ones).
- nothing is as easy as it looks on the internet.
