I was/still am on the fince about going 1JZ since the motor alone isn't that bad on the wallet. I just can't let go of the 3liter for the 2.5. It kinda messes with me a bit. But the 1JZs pull some good number though.

At first I was on the fence as well but I choose a 1JZGTE VVT-I which comes from factory in the 97+ Soarer. The VVT-I puts out more torque than a non-VVT-I 2JZGTE. I've had the honor to ride in all variations of the 1J/2J platform and I fell for the 1J. Sounds better to me...best bang for the buck...VVT-I has more torque...VVT-I has quicker spool...more consistent across the powerband. Like I said if I want to get real nasty I'll have my 2JZGE block ready with TT rods and pistons to make a 1.5JZ

Is is that much harder to tune a VVT-I? I heard it was simpler to pull power from a non VVT-I. Maybe be wrong but you got ask to learn.

Hah. Been there done that. I have a separate Nissan lanyard for my Z keys and a Toyota for the SC.

Depends on your resources...yes non-VVT-I is simpler to tune and you can run cheap parts on it and still be sort of ok. VVT-I is a tad bit more technical because of timing and the sensors. I'll be going straight standalone like Megasquirt to tune my VVT-I. Here in Florida there's a ton of resources to tune VVT-I as well as Powersquirt being in Fort Lauderdale, FL. which made the Megasquirt ECU

To each their own I suppose, but I always HATED the look of that car! That aside, nice SC you picked up there. Looks real clean and I totally understand that feeling you get when you've been searching for something specific for a while and finally get it.

Well it started with the Eclipse...but the orange junkyard Supra pulled me in tight and locked the door And thanks man...it took some years to find this and I am just so thankful that I waited for such clean car inside and out. The exact color I wanted I named it "Deadpool McNasty" if ya ask me lol
