Thanks, Shibumi, that helps a lot. The videos are especially useful. So, are you re-modding the same car (trunk lid) seen in the videos? I am still a bit puzzled how the LED colors are able to shine thru the black paint and clear coat overlying the transparent aluminum logo. Why isn't the LED light absorbed by the paint pigments?
I can't wait to hear and see what you have planned for the front grille!
Ok, I get your point about the backup camera. I would still worry that the camera will be affected when you are painting the trunk lid, so covering it doesn't hurt.

yes this is the same trunk lid as in the video. i do have a 2nd trunk lid (debadged an filled in) that is my back up so I can still drive the car during each versions upgrade.(after version 4 it just made sense) plus u guys know my motto.. when have 1 when u can have 2 for TWICE AS MUCH... (#cosignking)
I have VERY BRIGHT leds.. (from versions 1 & 2) but the trick has become the painting itself (my painters AMAZING). but think of a multi-color paint graphic (mask, spray, unmask, wet sand, remask, spray, repeat, repeat, repeat) the final layers MUST BE FLAWLESS.. as u can't wetsand the pearl/flake.. then clear, clear, clear... an clear some more...
this time 2/3rds of the car is getting sprayed.. an yes the camera will be masked during paint..
the front is still a hair brained scheme in my head... I'll know more about what I can an actually do when we pull the front end off... (plus my painter may honestly try to kill me) the other more feasible mod (also up front) is now a matter of finding the proper parts that will fit (as well as making sure they'll function properly)

Progress report.. we've had problems with materials bonding with the "transparent aluminum" ie bondo or duraglas.. as they cured (we'd allow 7 days to fully cure) they would shrink away always leaving a noticeable gap.. finally my painter came up with a solution.. Shi made it into the booth this weekend... here's a vid my painter took..
