Kybball#1 3IS Build Thread
Hello again CL, I was on here a few years back. Had a SGM 07 IS 350, some of you may remember. Im a motor guy by nature so I sold it and got a 12 Mustang GT and put a supercharger on it as well as everything else. It was my DD and I got tired of switching gears and I feel back in love with the new IS 350 F-Sport so I bought one. I figured this would be the easiest way to keep tabs on what ive done to it. I said I would mod slow but Im not sure thats possible. Glad to be back, i really like this forum. Ive had the car almost a month and here are my mods, as well as a few crappy cell phone pics. Ill get more when i can clean her up.

The pursuit of F
Congrats, welcome back! A friend of mine just recently got a '13 Boss 302 Grabber Blue. What a beast! What it lacks in refinement, it makes up in raw power. That's his weekend car (now stored for winter) while his daily driver is an '11 IS 250 AWD.

Thanks for the specs. The wheels fit great. Do you get any rubbing in the rear at all? Also would you be able to take a pic of the back, zoomed in just to see the wheel width with those 285 tires. I'm getting a similar setup, just want to see how it looks looking directly at it.

yea I can do that for ya. I just got RSR Down springs in so they will be going on soon. No rubbing now but who knows if i will when those go on. not worried about the front with the conservative drop, just the rear, Actually thinking about just putting on the fronts and see how that looks..

That's how I lowered mine, I barely even touched the rear. I have the RS-R sport coilovers and the rear height is only slightly lower than stock, but it creates a really aggressive stance when it's raked. If you don't have any rubbing now, you shouldn't get much with the new springs since the wheel travels up the same amount on a dip or a bump regardless.

If you like the slanted look, then do the front first, drive your car around the block so it settles, take some pics for reference. If it looks goofy and unbalanced, then do the rear since it's super easy to undo if anything. The problem is your aftermarket springs will be a bit stiffer up front so that could cause some odd behavior in the turns. Maybe not enough to notice though, depends on the spring rates and drop. I don't like springs because the rear always gets lowered more than front (on most cars) and looks a bit silly, just like stock but lower. I would always recommend coilovers (RS-R in this case) from the start unless you're not sure how long you'll be keeping your car. On the softest setting it's much softer than stock and on the stiffest it's really responsive and is a breeze to adjust the dampening. The ride overall is much smoother, no bounce, and you can change the height any way you want. Springs & stock shocks are ok but it usually gets pretty bouncy, my 335i was like that. Maybe other IS owners can chime in with their experience, I'm not sure how this car behaves since it's stiffer from factory with fsport...But if you're on a strict budget, just start with springs and see if it's good enough for the way you drive the car.
