2009 RWD IS250 Transmission work
Hello, made an account just to ask this question.
Bought a 2009 RWD IS 250 ~1 year ago @ 180,000 km and put on another 40k since then, and desperately needs a clutch change right about now. However my 5th gear syncro is likely going out (if I shift into it too quick grinding occurs) but in daily city-backroad-highway driving I shift from 4->6th gear often.
As I'm going to do the clutch in the next few weeks, I've been doing some research into rebuild kits. My understanding is the RA62 transmission is designation for the Aisin AY6 transmission (family? group? sub-group?). From Jeff's recent 'Building an IS350 6MT' thread I see there's various designations other than the RA62 for the AY6 transmission, but I'm having trouble finding a rebuilt kit that's appropriate for mine.
Anyone else find a good transmission rebuild kit solution or documentation?
Thanks!!

Next up, either put your VIN into corporate lexus and get the build sheet or use the door plate sticker to see what it lists.
Starts with "A/TM"
A for axle code.
TM for transmission code and look that up.
Most kits will come with bearings, seals, syncros, keepers etc. But not hard parts. Be sure to refresh the clutch fluid soon too.

1. So I did a transmission fluid change mid December 2020 (no idea when it was done previous to that), and there was, to my judgement, not an incredible amount of shavings I'd love your input (see the pic).
2. As suspected, the transmission is identified as RA62
When you mean rebuild kits don't come with 'hard parts', are syncro's not qualified as hard parts?

That looks pretty standard for magnet chunks. Too bad you don't know the timeline.
Hard parts are input shaft, gears, counter shaft, idler gear, shift forks and stuff like that.
Kits can be bearings. Bearings and seals. And bearings, seals soft parts like brass synchros, and misc keepers and plugs..
Typically not shift lockout pins and springs but I haven't looked so...
This bundle of joy came from a 70,000 mile IS350 diff.
Likely stuck to that magnet since hitting highway speed the first time it rolled!
