corradoMR2's Front Lip Spoilers - Build

5 Attachment(s)
Thanks to high prices and very little selection on spoilers at this time, I decided to tap into my creative process and dive into this low cost but highly laborious (yet rewarding :D) endeavor. With a little inspiration from the LFA Nurburgring and my current "lightning" theme, I designed and built my own front lip spoilers to compliment the aggressive front-end. I'll post pics of the car in my Build Thread.
  1. Extensive photoshopping the design I wanted. Then once locked in:
  2. Started off with styrofoam insulation board.
  3. Lots of cutting, shaping, carving, fitting, and repeating the prior steps several times.
  4. Once the base form was shaped, wrapped each in painter's tape.
  5. Applied two layers of Bondo Fiberglass and resin.
  6. Sanded, then applied the Bondo Body Filler and repeated several times to the desired shape.
  7. Applied Bondo Glazing and Spot putty over minor imperfections, sanded, repeated several times.
  8. Applied two coats of primer.
  9. Applied three coats of flat black paint.
  10. Applied carbon fiber vinyl wrap.
  11. Pre-drilled holes in the spoilers and added some high-strength tape.
  12. Fastened each spoiler with 4 stainless steel screws.

That is seriously amazing. After seeing the TRD lip I considered trying to make a front splitter style lip for my car. I have some friends who are real handy with making carbon fiber pieces too.

But seriously, that looks great and its dope to say you made it yourself.

Awesome 1 of a kind set! Major points for the DIY set.

Thanks! If there are enough folks who would want them, I may actually have to create a mold and replicate them. :D

I wonder....if the LEMS are $600, I would definitely be cheaper, but admittedly, those are computer designed for a 100% perfect fit although mine aren't too shabby in the fit department :D

Thanks! I considered the TRD, LEMS, and a couple others, all fantastic in craftsmanship and design in their own way, but I'm stubborn and I had to have the design I wanted! As a bonus, I also saved a few hundred $.

Thanks. When you love cars especially a fan of Toyota/Lexus all my life, spending 40+ hrs on this project over the last two weeks was a total blast.
