Your stock bottom should be fine for well above 400. I know there are a lot of non-vvti 1j guys who make 500+ on stock bottom

Yeah that's what i thought.

I know the bottom end is the same but the head makes the compression a little higher i believe. That's all i'm worried about but only time will tell. If not and it does pop i'll find a 2jz bottom end and build that. Just need to make a new oil feed for the vvti if i did that

If you take your time you could source a vvti bottom end might not be worth the wait though.

How do you like the vvt-i motor? I'm really considering doing the 1j vvti swap because it's a newer motor and has increased low end torque. Does it feel like it gives up to early when you had it stock?

That was also another option it's more the non vvti blocks seem to go for a lot less and its only a bit of work to add another vvti feed. But again that's only if the engine goes pop (touch wood that it doesn't)

I love the VVTI engine it picks up really fast from the bottom but yeah as you say the top end seems to drop off as you can see on the dyno. I think thats more to the CT-15 being a bit crap at the top end. Hopefully the new blower should sort that out.

Having been in both they are both very fast but i did prefer the feel of the vvti. It seems to give a really smooth torque band as well. I'll link some video's shortly of when she was Pretty much stock other than exhaust. Watch for an edit in this post

Sweet thank you! I think you solidified my decision to go vvt-i...if I can find one when I have the funds to do the swap. I'm not as worried about high top end, it's going in my DD that I want to have some fun with but also want a much newer motor with a little kick to it as well.

Few updates

Got her on the ramps and heres a pic from behind the turbo

Then i sorted out the coilovers as they were as uneven as a fat woman with rickets (no offence if your a fat woman with rickets)

Made a downpipe and screamer pipe

got that joined to the exhaust. so full 3" turbo back again.

Mounted the IC with an epic man bracket

Welded the flange (tehe flange) for the BOV
then installed it

Installed all the new gaskets and bolted everything up

Last update

installed a Teflon Oil feed to the turbo...
not big but so worth it..

Be running this weekend we hope
