THought I'd also add, I did in fact get my Grannas Racing Ford 8.8 IRS rear diff kit installed a week or so ago, right before I went to the track. Great kit, highly recommend! I wrote a review of it here with more info on it:

Lot of great information here. Ill be using a bunch of it on my build, although im staying with the 1uz in mine.
Ive been looking for one of those ford differentials for the last few days, the only listings i can find on ebay want $360 plus for it, and none of the local pick n pull lots have any. I was thinking they would be everywhere.

Yeah they are not as good of a deal on ebay after shipping. Do you have an lkq near you? What I did was call my local LKQ. They have a bunch of them all over their locations country wide. So they got me one and just had it shipped to my local LKQ hub free of charge since they constantly have semis coming and going. So I just got it for like 130 + tax. That's what I recommend everyone do.

Work has started on the new motor. Couple things interesting worth noting.
Some Factory 2JZ-GE VVTi measurements he took:
- Head chamber volume 41cc
- Piston volume 9.5cc (he cc'd a set of GE non-VVTi pistons as well with a value of 8cc)
-Piston / Deck clearance 0.003" popping out of the deck (he temp installed a set of GE non-VVTi pistons/rods as well with same measurement)
- Head step down recess is 0.028"
All good info to help me decide exactly what we do with the build as far as how much we deck the head, what head gasket to run, etc.

Did your machinist measure the squish clearance of the piston to head at TDC? I took measurements on the GE and GTE motors, and both were about 0.060". Just curious if the VVT-I is about the same.

good info right there .... both pistons and head play a role on the .5 bump in compression for the GE vvti . Apparently it is more on the head that bumps that compression higher.
Ali - wasn't it 44.2cc for the non vvti ?
Halon - was the VVTi piston cc'ed at 8cc you said ? I know the non vvti is 9.5cc
