Default GS 460 (re)build

I've been wanting a GS 460 for a while now. I already have a 04 LS 430, and had few GS cars before this one so I'm kind of familiar with Lexus. Black interior was a must have, didn't really care about exterior color.
About 3 weeks ago I found a black on black about 2 hours from me. It had (lot) higher mileage than I wanted, but I figured it's a Lexus so not that big of a deal. Also it was much cheaper than everything I've seen so far (all 3 of them) so I figured I'll have money left over to rebuild everything.

The plan is to tackle the suspension first. I'm rebuilding it completely with OEM parts, KYB struts and Tanabe drop springs.
Figured while I'm there, new rotors, brake pads, wheel bearings as well.
Dan at Bell Lexus and I are on first name basis now.

We'll see what's needed next. Sorry about long intro, here is the car.

As I'm waiting for the parts I tried to address the interior issues. Passenger seat has a rip, I was going to order new covers but I found a seat on Marketplace.
Seat I bought is out of GS 350, so it's not same. I ended up taking it apart and just swapped the bottom part to my seat.

Found a door panel in really good condition on eBay. Once again it's out newer GS 350 and I couldn't just install it. I tried, connector matches but it's wired different. Nothing worked, except as soon as I connected it, windows rolled down.
Ended up pulling everything out of the old one and swapping into new one. Handle, lights, buttons, harness, everything.

Got the car on car jacks, and getting ready to start with the suspension. I ended up buying a manual online to be ready. Here are the torque specs for the front.

Started with rear. Took wheel bearings out, cleaned up the knuckle, and installed the bearings. Thanks to the forum, it wasn't that hard. I took the upper control arm out, used a 7" pulley puller to push the axle in, loosen the 4 bolts half way then used a slide hammer to break it loose. After that I loosen the bolts all the way and pulled it out.
Installing was little tricky, but not that hard. Lined up the sensor hole, and while holding it in place with one hand, used the impact on the axle bolt to pull the axle towards the dust shield. After that 3/8 extension and hammer to tap the dust shield all the way in.

Got the rear wheel bearings from Rockauto. Made in Japan on the box. JTEKT brand (Koyo) part number 3DACF044D-9GR for both sides.

I was fighting with this bushing for an hour, never seen a bushing glued to the sway bar. Bushing won, can't be replaced, replacement that Bell Lexus sent doesn't match. I think the only way is to order a new sway bar. Ordered F sport sway bars front and back.

Since I can't replace rear sway bar bushings, and would have to get a whole new rear sway bar I decided to order F sport sway bars. They are finally here and installed. New links too front and back.

Yesterday I was concentrating on the engine. I replaced the dented oil pan with a used one from eBay. I also traced the oil leak to the oil filter housing and replaced the 2 O-rings. Hopefully that takes care of that. Up top I put in new spark plugs and new tube seals (I think that's what they are called). Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Swivel adapter (universal joint) is a must and crapload of extensions.
Spark plugs - 90919-01249
Tube seals - 11193-38020
Oil filter adapter O-rings - 96722-24030-99

Today I checked everything on the suspension, making sure that I didn't miss anything.
Cleaned up the nasty calipers and painted them. New rotors, pads and stainless brake lines.

My other project keeps getting in the way of GS460. I ordered Tanabe Medallion exhaust and new exhaust gaskets from Bell Lexus. While I'm waiting for that to arrive I decided to tackle the nasty interior. Previous owner had a little hairy dog and there is dog hair everywhere. I pulled out all the vents and cleaned them, still need to pull out the center console and head unit to get to the top vents. Pulled the front and back seats out, and the package tray to vacuum and see what's going on with the dead subwoofer. I absolutely can't stand pet hair in the car. Carpet was surprisingly clean after vacuuming. I will steam clean it later.

Excellent thread, you are being very thorough. If you are going for longevity, I recommend PCV valve, water pump, trans fluid, and diff fluid. Luckily parts are inexpensive, and you seem to already be working w Bell Lexus for parts. Swapping coolant should stave off the valley plate issue, and brake fluid should keep your brake actuator working longer (both problem areas for the 460). I am feeling nostalgic, reminds me of my 460 restoration. Feel free to browse my thread for ideas: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...3-gs460-2.html furthermore, TreysGS460 has a good build thread for performance, and Bastrd6 did some very nice mods to his 460. Good luck and congrats, we are looking forward to seeing your progress here;

Thank you. I have been reading through yours and Treys build and I really appreciate all the info you guys put out there, it's really helpful. I haven't seen Bastrd6 yet, but I will check it out.
I am definitely planning on keeping this one in my collection and will flush out replace all the fluids before I get it back on the road.
