Minor rust removal and prevention
There is some minor surface rust along the underside edge of one of the panels where the paint came off and bare metal was exposed. I would like to remove this rust and touch up the bare metal so that it doesn't rust again.
I know how to remove the rust more or less (0000 steel wool soaked in a penetrating oil), but what coating or treatment can I use to treat the bare exposed metal to prevent continued rust? Appearance and matching color doesn't matter as the area is hardly visible.

Once you get rust off paint is a good rust preventer.
As far as bar metal, I never tried it but read good things about POR15, Eastwood makes a product called ExoArmour which is supposed to be good too.
