Is the Micro-Restore Detergent the best Towel cleaner for your Towels?

There are lots of opinions on what is considered the best, but I have absolutely no problem with the micro-restore detergent. You can't go wrong with it.

Its quite expensive, I normally go for the most cheapest basic liquid detergent with no special additives, thats all you need to wash microfiber.

I have been using micro-restore for years. Buy the gallon and it’ll last you a long time! I love the stuff... my towels last forever and feel like new.

Imo washing with warm-cool water was best for me, don't use the warm or hot and all laundries might be different. Also, dry low tumble heat or air dry is best. Don't use any heat other than low.

I usually buy micro-restore by the gallon. When I'm out of micro-restore I'll occasionally use vinegar to strip the towels.

I've heard All free and clear is a good cheap alternative, but I've never tried it.

I wash our towels on warm, then do maximum spin cycle which gets them almost dry, then toss them in the dryer on low heat. Since we have tons of towels, I break ours up into various loads: polishing towels, washing/drying towels, interior & glass towels, and "dirty" towels (ie wheels, engine bay, exhaust tip, etc. towels). If you don't have enough towels to make it worth breaking into separate loads, I would at least do your dirtier towels separate from your towels that touch paint/delicate areas.

"Never" use fabric softeners or detergents with fabric softeners those are Nono for your microfibers that should last a very long time if used and maintained properly.

Some good general information on care from MicrofiberTech

Care Instructions

Washing microfiber towels is pretty easy, there are just a few things that you should remember to keep your products effective and long lasting. You can wash and dry your microfiber products in your household washer and dryer, with warm water and low heat.

Microfiber towel washing instructions to keep your microfiber "like new":
  • Do not use Bleach
  • Do not use Fabric Softener
  • Do not wash with other cotton products.

Microfiber products do not like bleach. Washing microfiber towels with bleach breaks down the polyester and polyamide micro-filaments, rendering them less effective.
Fabric softeners provide a layer of "softeness" on your clothing, which is nice for clothing that you wear, but this coating clogs the microfibers, rendering them less effective.
It is not that microfiber products do not like cotton products or other fabrics, it is that when you are cleaning microfiber cloth with your cotton products the microfiber will grab and hold onto the lint that the cotton produces. So if you do not want your microfiber towels to lint then you should not wash them with cotton products.

i usually go back and forth between the MFR and the chemical guys MFW.. The gallon of chemical guys is cheaper but something about that MFR that makes the towels extra plush.

I've went away from Micro-Restore and went towards just a liquid detergent that are free from dyes and other chemicals. I'll also add some distilled vinegar to give the microfibers that plush feel again.
