I was out and about Friday night and came back to find two sticky black grime marks on my car left my some a-hole drunk college kids no doubt. After cleaning the marks off, I found a pronounced (although hard to tell in the photo) ash-colored mark on my paint that won't come off. I'm not blowing up about it because it seems like a relatively simple/cheap issue to fix, but I have no idea how. Any ideas? I took my car to the dealership a few months earlier and found a similar mark on the other side of my car due to their "detailed" handiwork. Figured the big-brains on CL could steer me in the right direction. Thanks

From the picture it almost looks like a thin horizontal line correct?
As a detailer, I always start from the least aggressive method with simple polish.
For everything listed, I prefer the bottles and not the paste in the circular cans.
If that doesn't do it I try rubbing compound, and if it's good then just compound it out, polish it back, and wax it if wanted.
Usually this does it though unless the car was hit slightly, missing paint, or has some weird over-spray or defects.
If compound doesn't do it, I use 3000 grit sandpaper and then compound/polish.
If that doesn't do it, I will use 1500 with very light pressure but you really have to know what your are doing as this can mess the clear coat up permanently. If that works then I do the previous steps to get it glossy again.

If there is a sticky residue left than I would use Goo Gone or Goof Off. Than clay bar and a good coat of wax.
