Default Body shop or Detailer to remove scratches?

Would you go to a body shop or detailer to remove scratches, and what type of procedure would you recommend? See attached for pics:

Damage like this needs to be repaired/replaced and then repainted at a body shop....

Damage like this can likely be removed by a detailer...

To sum it up.... If the damage has not penetrated the clear coat, a detailer can repair it. If it has penetrated the clear coat, it will need to be repainted.

Thanks! Do you think it's worth repairing the damage in the 1st pic? Seems like rock chips are inevitable.

Also, do you recommend going to detailer first to see what they can take care of, and then body shop for the rest?

One shop recommended adding clear coat, paint correction, wet sand, and buff. Is that a good idea?

Those are quite a bit more than your typical rock chips... that would bother me to look at, but in the end it is up to you.

I would have a reputable detailer look at it first, they will be able to give you an idea of what they can completely remove, partially remove, or what they are unable to make any difference to.

That is a lot of words piled together.... you cannot simply "add clear coat" unless you're just referring to touch up paint.

Paint correction & "buff" are generally the same thing... this process is used to remove swirl marks and light scratches from the finish to restore clarity and gloss.

Wetsanding, if needed, is done prior to the correction process and is not something I would recommend on OEM paint on a daily driven vehicle except for the occasional scratch repair if absolutely necessary. This is because OEM paint is very thin, so you do not want to remove too much material and damage the finish.

Thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a reputable detailer first before going to body shop and will not go with any body shops that want to wet sand unless absolutely necessary.

The detailer will be able to wet sand scratches if needed.
