Black Trim Maintenance
 

Question in regards to maintaining the body of the NX.

I am OCD when it comes to maintaining a car, both inside and out.

While I have sealants, polishes, and waxes, I haven't really had to deal with black trim. My camaro has a little, but since its driven maybe 2000 miles a year, I don't really have to deal with color fading.

But what about the NX? This car is going to be my daily driver, and as such, the black trim over the wheel wells is going to be subjected to the conditions of being parked in the driveway, out in the sun, the rain,and the snow/salt.

So my question, what do you recommend to apply on that black trim to make sure it stays black? i am thinking Adam's VRT (http://adamspolishes.com/adam-s-supe....html?___SID=U), but I worry about the longevity of the product. I occasionally use Mother's Back to Black on other cars I've had if something changes color slightly, but that is one rain storm and gone.

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

You're going to love CarPro DLUX. This product is a trim coating that will protect your trim and keep it looking great for 1+ years! It is very easy to apply, and one bottle will last you for quite a while as very little product is needed for each application.

Would the product work for the shiny plastic on the B pillar as well? I haven't even put a MF towel to mine yet and it's already got plenty of swirls in it

The gloss black pillars should be treated like any other painted surface. Polish and protect them with products meant for paint, not trim.

was in the airport earlier and couldn't find this pic... this is my wiper cowl area that has been coated with DLUX for over a year. Look at how well it still repels water!

I agree with Zach, CarPro DLUX does a great job. I also often just use Meg's D156 (aka Ultimate Quik Wax) on trim in good condition which leaves a similar patina and protects for 2-3 weeks. This is a product I use a lot on my paint and I just apply to the trim after every weekly wash. Simple wowo process yields good results. CarPro DLUX is the only discrete trim product I now use though.

FWIW, I was looking at some old posts from 2012 in a Gtechniq forum, and they basically admitted their C1 (paint), C4 (plastic trim) and C5 (wheel coating) were all the same product, just in different sized containers. Similarly, Optimum has just a single coating recommended for use on paint, wheels, and plastic trim. So at least for those two brands of coatings, you could use whatever you have left over from coating your paint, and use it on your wheels and plastic.

I imagine that with other brands of coatings, the differences between the paint, wheel, and plastic coatings are minimal, if there are any differences at all. The glass coatings appear to be different though.
