I have a 2,700 psi by Landa, 2,700 psi by Mi-T-D and a Dirt Killer H360. Either of these brands make excellent washers. I'm a big fan of Honda or Kawasaki small engines...
Not sure if you're looking at an electric or gasoline washer, either way I would recommend no less than 2,000 psi and no larger than 2,700 psi. For more demanding uses other than your vehicle I would purchase a turbo blaster tip..

Thanks for commenting guys I heard more than 2,000psi can potentially damage the paint? I'm looking to get an electric one compatible with a foam cannon

There is no guarantee that any particular pressure is safe for paint. I use s 2000 psi PW and haven't had any issues, but you must use common sense in regards to what tip you use, how close to the vehicle you are, etc.

A hose is just fine... a pressure washer is absolutely NOT necessary for washing your car. It is simply an additional tool that some people choose to use.

i think its helpful whenever you get stubborn spots that's not coming off, you can PW it off rather than rubbing, which could create some swirls

I should have been more clear when posting. I do not use my pressure washer directly on any vehicles, I use mine in conjunction with a foam cannon. I see vehicles all the time where paint has flaked off do to usage of pressure washers, especially rubber bumpers. Also see a lot of condenser fins damaged by washers
I use my washers for more demanding projects, multiple uses instead of limited.... so I prefer a higher psi rated washer. I control pressure by tip size and any selected attachments.
If you're not going to foam, buy a good water nozzle and remove and store after usage for longer life
