3M Headlight Restoration kit is awesome!
Hi All,
I just did the headlights on my '00 ES300 and I can't say enough about how good the 3M kit works on these puppies. Check out the pics.
I followed their instructions EXCEPT I started with the finer sandpaper. I think the 500 is too aggressive unless your headlights are SUPER bad.
I am going to finish them up buy adding a coast of opti-lens when it gets here to protect them.

Nice job. Thanks for the post. I for one, always appreciate the real scoop from someone who first tries these sort of more aggressive products... Builds my own confidence to take something like this on one day.

Not a problem!
The kit comes with:
500 grit sandpaper
1500 grit sandpaper
3000 grit wet disc
Buffing pad and compound
I started with the 1500 grit and that was plenty aggressive. 500 is a bit too much IMO.

Those came out awesome.
You should consider putting a sealant or nano coating on them to prevent them from yellowing up again. With the sealant, it will keep them looking clear for a good while (although not a permanent fix), it is better than leaving them unprotected. Optimum has the new Opti-Lens coating specific for lights, supposedly it's good stuff, but costly.

^^^ Have you used Opti-Lens or heard any reviews on it? For $60 I'd like to see or hear some positive reviews before buying it. I installed brand new retrofit headlights last year and would like to prevent any hazing or yellowing from occurring. I've been using some off the shelf product sealant for the interim.

personally for headlights, rather than buy the kit, I buy 800 grit paper, 2000 grit paper, and 3000 grit pad thing that 3m makes. wet sand at all those levels then after that, use ultimate compound and buff it hard. use a wax or sealant to finish. works very well. here are my befores and after.
