What polisher shall i get??
 

Its my birthday coming up in a bout a month and the old lady asked what i wanted for it... ughhhh i dunno was my response... well i've always wanted a orbital so why not for my bday. Out of the meguirs, griots and porter.. what would you recommend based on comfort, reliability and flexibility... ie can i use it as a light buffer with the correct pad?

as far as experience. I used to work in an autobody shop, but i never had my own tools. Always had the best handed to me so im kind of spoiled.

I was told the griots garage was cheap like something you would buy at harbor freight but still worked good. I think i am going to buy the porter and run with that. for 96, that doesnt come with the backing plate correct?

Including shipping, it works out to be $190 or so at autogeek.

If you bough the PC from amazon, it is about 90 - you have to figure out which pads you need and whether the included glaze/swirl remover are what you want/need.
Basically, work out the total cost for what you need, and compare the net price :)

For me, I wanted a different selection of pads, and already have the polish and wax that I want to use. So the amazon price (free shipping) worked cheaper for me. Well, the amazon option won't get the PC for a few weeks, so if you need it now, that won't work.

EHH dont need it now but i have a code to get free shipping with autogeek... (AGO) i will price it out however.... im just being lazy....

I don't like CCS pads.

Hard to clean and not as efficient (less foam on the paint means less correction). Better to get the unit separately and build your own supply of products... The optimum and menzerna lines are very good

I've been using the hydrotech pads and i really like them. Flat pad and doesn't absorb polish into the pads. So you end up using less product.

I just bought one of these to supplement my PC 7424xp, Can't wait to try it out.

the Griots Polisher would work great.

I bought the PC 7424XP kit from Autogeek. I'm still new to the polishing and paint correcting game, but I definitely recommend the 5.5 pads instead of the 6.5 pads in the kits. I read that on their forums most of the guys recommended 5.5 with the PC and but thought I would give the 6.5's a try since they came with the kit and I didn't like them with this machine.

I love the Meguiar's Microfiber pad kit. The kit consists of two cutting pads, two finishing pads and a bottle each of compound and a fine polish/finishing wax.

I've owned a PC since March of 1995 and can say without reservation that these are the best pads I've ever used. They work fast, almost twice as fast as foam IMO, and finish out nicely. I'll still use foam for jeweling if needed.

These pads are fast, IME generally twice as fast as foam for removing defects. I can easily two-step a vehicle where I used to need three and the result is every bit as good as the foam route. The microfiber pads are rugged and I've some that have seen over 40 vehicles.

The keys to using these pads is to initially prime the pads properly then apply three pea sized dots of compound to the pad for each pass. The performance of these pads depends upon them being kept clean. The best method I've found for cleaning them is to use my air compressor. I blow the pad clean after every couple of passes. These pads also work best at the speeds recommended.

I'm also in the market for a new polisher. What are everyone's thoughts on the Meguiar's Professional Dual Action Polisher? It's a dual action polisher for $149.95 with free super shipping.

jfelbab, I've been trying to find this, "Meguiar's Microfiber pad kit" to no avail. I'm using that as my search criteria but just cannot find such a kit!!???!! Can y ou direct me to where I can find this kit to order? I have a urgent need to use this for a detail this coming Saturday! Thanks!!!
