Is there anything I can do about my windshield?
Before I go buy a new one, which would be a shame with a good solid windshield, is there anything I could do to fix this odd issue of unknown substance?
I've already rubbed it with goo-gone, alcohol, and waxed it. Not even a dent in the issue. No idea what it was. like oil splatter, road salt splatter, something........

I've heard you can get rid of water spots/acid rain spots on a windshield by wiping it with vinegar and newspaper (something about the combo that does it I think). I've never tried it, but maybe this would work on this mysterious stain you have?

The razor won''t do it.
Is it on the inside or outside?
looks like the inside.
Talk to windshield repair man , they have an electric buffer and it should buff out .
Worst case $185 for a new one.

Went and bought brillo pads, no dice. Magic eraser, no dice.
Nothing is working Only clue to this is that it goes away when wet so has to be on the outside. The water masks the effects.
Might be new windshield time.

Eastwood glass polishing kit. This is an amazing product that works on glass like a polish does on paint.

I am not talking about waxing it OLT. Waxing is the last step. You put wax on something after it is perfectly clean and polished to protect your work.
The reason I suggested Prepsol, Thinner, or the 3M gen ad. rem. is because they are really powerful at removing stuff like tar, baked on grease or other substances that have really bonded with the surface. If a chemical can't remove it, then you can try a compound, which is abrasive to try and polish it out.
Waxing obviously won't do anything to that.

compound/polish is not the same as wax. They have abrasives that should take that stuff off.
If you have a buffer, try using M105 on a white pad
if you don't have a buffer, have you tried using detailing clay on it?
sounds like this guy is having the same issue you describe:

maybe there are some tips there that will help
