Help: Touchup Paint Smear

Hi, Fellow Rexer, I had a problem:

Trying to cover up a paint chip with the touchup paint in a hurry, I accidentally smeared the touchup paint to the surrounding area. Althogh the actual paint chip and the smeared touchup are smaller than 1/10 of a penny, it is right on the center of the hood, which made my spotless 2001 RX300 (indigo blue) looks bad.

What mathod or chemical can I employ to fix this (to remove the smeared touchup paint without damaging the original paint and coating)?

Thank you.

Try putting some more touch up paint on top of it and then immediately wiping it off while it's wet.

You want this stuff.... you REALLY, REALLY want it :)

I recommend Langka, too.

I bought some and used it. Works great! Requires a deft touch, though...Which, in a way, is a good thing, because if you make a mistake, all you're doing is removing the touch-up paint. Just Langka the spot, clean it and try again. It took me two attempts to get it right. I don't want paint chips or scratches, but I don't worry so much about them with Langka in my toolbox.

if the langka stuff doenst work you could do it the hard way...

use 2000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and sand the smeared touch up paint away. then reapply some clear coat (if you need it you may be able to skip this part). then sand it down again with 2000 wet/dry sandpaper. some clear coat kits come with a glaze that helps remove the smudged look after sanding down the clear coat. finally, id say use 3M imperial hand glaze to make it even more shiny.

ill be fixing up a whole bunch of paint chips as soon as lexus can reorder and stock their shelves with my touch up paint color.

I get my Lexus touch-up paint at my local Toyota dealer. Same stuff, $1.00 less.

Uhh... I've never paid for Lexus touch up paint... I goto the parts counter and they give me the color for my vehicle, no charge.

Now, the a**hole Pontiac dealer is another story...

Well, I'd spend $7.00 in gas to get to my Lexus dealer and the free paint, so...

I'll get some free paint @ 15K service. ;)

The other day I was driving up my road and little did I know the yellow line had JUST been painted. When I got to my house, yellow paint was splattered all in my wheel wells.
None got on the exterior (thank god)....but my wheel wells are yellow!:mad:f

Does anyone know what I can use to get it off, or will it just disappear as time goes by?

RX300TC 08-12-02 09:56 AM

My wife has run through all kinds of crap...

From my own experience, the wheel wells have a good healthy layer of dust/dirt in them already from everyday use. I bet with a nylon brush and some car wash, they should come clean. Mine have, or time/weather takes care of it.

Goncookoo 08-12-02 10:01 AM

pressure washer maybe... i dunno.

The wheel wells are plastic, so maybe spot test with a little
WD-40. I've generally had good luck with it as a solvent.

Tough Paint Remover

You can also use GUMOUT spray, caburator cleaner. this stuff is strong so be careful.

Langka works

Thank you all, I ordered Langka and got it 2 days later (I'm in Chicago, so very impressed). I tried it on my spots and the smeared touch up paint is gone like a magic.

However, probably is my skill - Langka also removes some of the touch up paint in the chip. The chip is not very deep. I guess it requires very subtle touch while applying Langka.

Any tips?

How long should I wait to re-apply touch up paint to the chip after Langka treatment? How long should I wait for the paint to dry up? Last time I waited 12 hours and Langka removes that layer while another 5-day old layer survived.

Please let me know your trick, thanks.
