Although I am happy with my regular Porter Cable 7424 have you taken the new model out of the box and tried it? Does the quality seem as good as the original porter cable, do you notice a difference when turning it on like more noise, vibration, heat? Porter Cables are solid machines at a very good price with alot of support from different companies (pads/backing plates), I highly recommend Porter Cable.

Definitely the flex. Flex has forced rotation and PC does not. Still not a bad machine to have though.

I read over at autopia it says.

Parts made in China
Machine assembled in Mexico and USA.

From my understanding it's made in a few different countries with the final steps taking place here in the US before it's distributed.

Glad to hear you got everything nice and quick! I hope the Flex is working well for you and the detail work is coming out top notch.

lol, they specifically told me not to sell you one, j/k. This buffer is supposed to have enhanced durability. They now offer a 90 money back guarantee, 1 yr full warranty and 3 yr parts warranty. So I commend them for backing up this new tool with an improved warranty as well.

It does feel a little more solid than the old unit and probably slightly less noisy with less vibration. It is a little bit bigger but overall it's definitely improvement. I don't think I would rush to get the 7424XP over the old 7424 because they are still relatively similar with their results. Instead I would recommend you save up and purchase a Flex or rotary buffer. These buffers will provide a more noticeable jump in results.

The Flex has quite a bit more power than the PC 7424XP. The Flex hits 9,600PMS while the new 7424XP is at 6,800OPMs which is over 40% more OPMs still for the Flex. The Flex has a more powerful motor so it won't bog down with pressure as well. The Flex also utilizes a forced random orbit which generates more cutting power as well.

I'm glad I'm starting one of my friends in the detailing stuff. I should tell him to get one so I can play with it too haha. Enhanced warranty is great to hear thats for sure! I hope they didn't get the idea once they heard about me though haha
