Medium Cut Rubbing Compound on Wood Console OK?
Someone broke into my GS last week. The glass shattered all over the interior. The thief must have leaned against the wood console to grab my iPod. In doing so, he scratched my wood console.
The scratch is not long but is deep. It definitely catches my fingernail.
I obviously would like to remove the blemish completely. I tried to use Scratch-X 2.0 but it is not aggressive enough.
Would it be safe to use a medium cut rubbing compund? I would then polish it up with the Scratch-X. Thoughts? Help Guys! Thanks a ton.

No comments or experiences here? I saw a few other postings on other threads.
I will try to sand down the area with 3M 1500 grit sandpaper then polish it using some Scratch-X.

have any photos? that can help to try to point you in the right direction. but if you are set on wetsanding, i would start off with the least aggressive sandpaper. 1500 seems pretty aggressive. i would start from 3000, 2500, and 2000 as a last resort. 1500 grit marks may be too harsh to work out by hand or would just take a while.

OK guys, I started with 2000 grit 3M paper and was able to polish some of it down....the problem is that it is rather deep.
The broken glass must have dug deeper than I expected.
The 2000 grit paper follwoed by Scratch-X worked. I was able to buff all of the scratches out that were caused by the sandpaper.
I will continue to work on it, but I doubt I will be able to remove the gouges completely.
I just found a small surface cut from the glass on my passenger seat...doesnt seem to have cut all the way through the leather...oh well, what can you do.

You will not be able to fix it with sandpaper, and scratch-x. You need to use wood finishing products. You will have to sand down the entire wood panel, buff it out, polish it, and make sure there are no swirls left over. Then, you should apply some wood finishing products to redeem the color.
