Sorry though, I don’t know what he exactly did… a professional detailer will know what to do
Thanks for the heads up.

Mine is sgm (smoky granite mica), seems these dark colors are easily stained. I assume this is not just a Lexus problem, based on what I was told per a detailer pro/shop owner.

try meguiar's scratchX.

it's cheap, and it is possible that the etching/cracking is not completely through the whole clear coat.

you'll have to apply it several times, but you should do only a small part of the stain to see how deep the damage is.

It looks like it could have been a bird egg that dropped on your trunk. It's quite acidic for the paint and the drop could have damaged the clear, thus allowing the egg's acidic residue to seep in, and you weren't able to tell because of the rain and dirt.

I'm curious too.

My 07 IS350 CPO just went into Lexus bodyshop today for similar thing on hood. We will see how that goes.

Looks like they are holding my IS350 for a few days, complete repaint of hood is necessary.

Aww geez, that sucks man. Hopefully they take care of it properly instead of putting buffer trails on it...

If they do put them in there, tell them a novice (me) used their kind of buffer for the first time and had 0 holograms after the first pass but with 100% correction. I seriously don't know how they can do it unless its with a wool pad (can't comment on that yet...)

My IS350 has been in the shop 3 days, but I'm not complaining since the ES350 loaner car is ok.

Update: 5 working days later, I might get my IS back today.

Not so lucky, car is still in the shop. They want to fix the latest recall too.

That is paint damage. It cant be clearcoat damage, since AFAIK Obsidian Black has no clearcoat. Its the acid from bird poo or egg that caused it like someone else in here said. I had a similar issue on my ES and my friend had a Black LS with that exact issue due to bird poop. It is the cracking of the paint (or clearcoat in my case) but you have no clear, so its the paint. it can be rectified by a good detailer temporarily but will reappear if not kept up with (waxed every month and rebuffed every 3). Ultimately the best solution is to repaint. Lexus Obsidian black repaint on a trunk lid should run about $350 if you bring them the lid/pick it up, or $450-$500 if you have it all done by them. I would have them do it all because R&I is a pain in the a**, and you always run the risk of chipping the fresh paint.

Eyezack: I dont know how one can get buffer trails either...even with a wool pad, i have yet to encounter it even without correction. The only time it has happened to me (once) was due to me not letting the wax dry enough, and so i got some surface marring from having wet wax in the pad. a quick had buffing after that pass revealed a flawless finish. So mine wasnt quite the same thing, i had buffer trails, but they were dur to incomplete removal of the wax on my part. That is the only way i can see someone having swirl marks from a buffer unless they are just not doing it right.

Just got my IS350 back after hood repaint and fuel line recall fix, total of 10 days in shop. The Smoky gray mica came out perfectly, so I'm happy.

Did they charge you to repaint the hood or was it covered under the warranty? I have a 07 IS250 Obisdian and there are like 3-4 quarter coin size marks like that and Lexus told me it just needs a good polish to take it out. =(
