Default Scratch-X not for Ibex/Teflon coating?

I was in Kragen today and wanted to buy Scratch-X but the dude in there told me it wouldnt be a good idea to use it on the Ibex/Teflon. He said it would go through the coating. Is this true?

Sure, if an abrasive will remove paint (which it does) it will remove any other coating on the paint too.

Cheers.

You need to tell us specifically what product you're referring to, then we can help and give feedback.

The answer to your question on scratches is easier: Yes, you'll need a compound or polish to remove them (those that CAN be removed that is), which WILL remove your dealer applied coating as well. Sorry! This is one reason why a "lifetime" sealant / wax is more a marketing ploy, and becomes problematic at a basic level, because EVERY car needs to be polished and has paint issues that require attention over the course of its life, short and long term.

You could try a hand glaze to hide swirls. It will fill them and add shine, but it will wash off in a week or 2 and you'll need to reapply. Many like to use one then apply Meguiar's NXT over top for a little extra longevity.

And of course you know that teflon needs to be applied at temperatures of 650°. So you know what is on your plastic is not really teflon coated. It's smeared with marketing hype.

I used the Scratch-X and used the Maguire's Clear Coat wax. Works wonders! I'll stick with the Onyx for awhile now lol.
