Default HID Fogs

Hi,

My first post ... :-)

I purchased an 08 GS350 a couple months back.

Came across this site and love it.

I think I would like to swap out my current Fog Lights with HID type lights.

Now I am pretty handy - but I have never done such a thing. So forgive my ignorance on the lingo and how you install.

My understanding is that the HID are a higher end type of buib that can be installed in a plug n' play manner.

Which lamps should I get .... I like Yellow? I looked through a number of threads is there a thread (with pics) anyone would recommend to follow as an instruction guide?

Now - it sounds like a lot of people swap out the 'inner' lights (closest to the grill) - I guess these are the daytime running lights. Is there a preference on this as well in terms of brightness? I think I would want them to match the regular head lamps. Would this mess up my high beams?

Thank you for helping out a newbie,

Jason

If you like yellow you could go with 3000k or 2500k HID fogs. Also people that swap out their inner lights, there are two in there, DRL's and parking lights. The parking lights are the ones that come on when your low beams are on. Also if you do want to change your DRL's to LED, you will lose your high beam function.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply - is there any particular brand to buy?

So essentially - if I swap out the parking lights and keep the DRLs as they are now ... I would keep my high beam functionality right?

Thanks!

Would something like this work?:

I saw a post where someone had replaced the fog light bulbs by going through the front wheel wells. I would assume this bulb would be changed in the same fashion?

What about filament - what is the importance of this?

Yes... if you change only the parking lights (small wedge bulb that turns on with your headlights) and not your DRLs, you will still have your high beam function. If you want to change your DRL to white LEDs... check out this thread.

I few important links:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...tallation.html

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...placement.html

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...-new-hids.html

Regarding actual replacement, just going with bulb wont cut it. You need the actual HID fog hit. You already have yellow fog lights, and to convert it to HID you will need a full kit including ballast. I ordered 3000k from here: http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Xtreme_HID..._2001_s/21.htm, but haven't installed it yet. Based from the instructions in the links above should be easy

Hello,
How do you remove that small wedge bulb (parking light)? I pulled it, it does not go, I twist it it does not turn. Also, I have purchased 194 LED replacements but that small bulb so does not look like 194 type.

If you are talkling about the parking light that comes on with the low beam. It is mounted on a black stick like holder. Grab the flat end of that stick and twist 90 deg and pull. Once its out, the 194 bulb pull straight out.
