You can not reprogram the smart key. Once it is registerd with one car it can not be transfered.

Not entirely true, you just have to reset immobilizer(takes appox 16 min) and
car will accept used smart keys

Thats not true, but its expensive $500 to program a previously pprogrammed key because all the keys have to be reprogrammed. If you buy a brand new on on ebay for $80 the dealer will add the new key on to the same code for $60

I had bought a smart key for my ls460L from ebay and it was already programmed into another car. Hennessey Lexus of Gwinett, Atlanta, Ga. charged me 109.00 to reflash and reprogram. So it can be done depending on the dealership if they have the tools to do it. I know that dealership can because they did it for me.
