Default FS: Precision Industries PI Dragon Torque Converter TC for GS400

~2800RPM STALL

Purchased from CL member, driven ~15,000 miles- this thing will completely change your view of the GS400. I had this installed in my 1998 GS400.

Asking $400 obo plus shipping, or you pick up in Murfreesboro, TN.

It is a great upgrade and give you a true feel of the line that everyone desires!

I have contacted PI and they can align it. If i am not mistaken they can do this free of charge once. I just dont have the time to get it done. have a wedding on the way and i am selling off all my goodies...

These things are pretty rare on CL now. PM me if you have any questions and i can give you more info.

I have attached a picture of it from when i bought it from a CL member. It is the same pic he had on his listing. if you guys actually want to see a pic of it pm me. If i get a lot of requests ill just post it on my thread.

What do u mean PI can align it? Is it a direct fit or something has to be changed?

I believe he is talking about a stall change. This is free of charge if you were the original owner.

If you have a 400 then you can leave it at 2800.
If you have a 430 then you will want to ship it in and have them lower it to +\- 2400 to avoid a CEL.

I know as I just had one done by PI. Also if this was an older unit they have improved the clutch material as of late, so if you do end up sending it in have them put a new clutch in it too.

GLWS!

Thanks for clarification.

I have had a vibration issue at 2800, i spoke to PI tech and he said it must be aligned for it to perform smoothly.

It has been off my car for 4 years now. I just never got around to getting it aligned, sending it off.

I will check my attic and see what else i have left id like to sell.

i have a 430 and have had a PI 2800 stall installed in my car for over 5 years. No issues, no CEL.
Best mod (aside from the supercharger I had on the car)

That is good to hear LALEX1. From the research I did it some got one and some didn't. I did not want to be the one that did so I played it safe.

Again.. GLWS OP~!

It is the best mod you can do for the money! unless you spend $8000 for the supercharger

Vibration is bad, has nothing to do with the stall rpm. What needs to be aligned? Was not installed properly?

I will get this updated with what needs to be aligned Monday. I had sent an email to PI from my work email address a while back. The rep said it needed to be aligned, what needs to be aligned will be something that I will also find out Monday due to weekends being off from work. I will update this at that time.

These are the emails we sent back and forth. I havent been able to locate the others.

I sent:
I have a Dragon PI Torque Converter for a 1998 Lexus GS400. At 2800 RPM the car starts to vibrate and shake a lot. I have noticed it is only at the 2800/2900 rpm it does that. What do you think might be wrong with my converter? I have had it off my car for a few years now, i have recently decided to put it back on there. Can you let me know. I can drive to whiteville and get it fixed if possible.
Thanks,

He responded:
One of two things; The clutch inside the converter could be glazed and is having a hard time locking up (least likely, but not impossible) and the other more likely problem is; at that certain rpm its picking up a miss in the engine and or retarding the timing causing the vibration and once it gets over that rpm it then smooths out.

As far as repairing it, we don't work on vehicles, we just manufacture the converters.

I responded:
Well its off of the car and the car is functioning flawlessly. There is something up with the converter for sure. Do you think it could have been a issue with the install?

He responded:
Still could be either one of the problems I described at first. If you have the stock converter back in and it works fine, its because our converter is a higher stall, smaller diameter and your computer "thinks" something is wrong (slipping) when its installed so that's why it may be acting like it is. Re-programming the computer is a must and possibly lowering the stall may be in order as well.

I responded:
How could I get it reprogrammed? Have you guys dealt with this type of issue before?

He responded:
Not all those cars need it, just depends on what if any other modifications have been done. You'll just have to look for someone that does that sort of thing.

I responded:
There aren’t any other type of mods on the vehicle besides a Cold Air Intake. Is it possible I could bring by the converter and get you guys to check it out and see?

Hope this helps guys.
This is the Precision Industries in TN. They work on converters and the guy i spoke to is Jack.
