Can someone confirm that this is plug and play for a 1998 GS400

Thanks

I don't believe your 98 airbag will work with that steering wheel. You'd have to get the 2001 rx300 airbag for it to work. Not to mention if you don't have a gs400 you'll just have two holes in the steering wheel.

What is the difference between a '98 airbag and the '01 airbag. Will the '98 airbag not fit into the '01? Is there some sort of mechanical hinderence that would prevent it from working? I have no experience with airbags. My previous car was a 92 Cressida (still own it) and before that it was an 81 Celica (in car heaven).

To all who are inquiring about a factory oem wood wheel upgrade to there 98-2K GS:

I have retrofitted a 2001+ oem wood steering wheel w/ E-shift from a GS300 to my 99 GS4 using all factory parts.

You MUST use a 2001 RX300 single stage airbag for the install as 2001+ GS use 2 stage units with dual plugs for interfacing with car.
The is a plug and play; the connector and harness are the same for both airbags:
Lexus p/n 45130-48040-C0

E-shift/cruise control harness is exactly the same; just plug it in.

If you wish to block off the opening on the left side of the wheel where the audio controls are located for 2001+ GS's:
Lexus p/n 45187-48010

I'm adding the audio/nav control switches to my wheel to be used with a portable mp3 player I use in the car. This will require me to create my own wiring harness but the switch and switch case p/n's are:

Lexus p/n 86174-24010 switch case
Lexus p/n 84245-3W20 audio control switch

good luck

Not me but another member posted this after doing the upgrade.

Looking at the picture in the original post, it looks like everything (harness, switches, connectors, air bag) from the '98 would need to be transferred to the '01 steering wheel. If all of the transfer was made wouldn't the '01 wheel work in the '98 GS with the '98 airbag in it?

the 98 airbag will not work with this steering wheel. i believe it does not fit. therefore you have to use the 01 rx330 airbag since its single stage and will work with our cars.

I have seen a 98-2000 bag on a 01 steering wheels, so I know it's possible. However; it looks a little weird because there is different lines between the two.
