How-To Tuesday: Resetting That Pesky Oil Light
Every Tuesday, we get our DIY on by offering you some helpful How-To articles to help you and your car become one. And while we’ve shown you time and time again that working on your car isn’t something you need to be intimated by, today’s How-To Tuesday article may just be the least intimidating DIY yet.
Today we’re talking about resetting that darned oil light, which never seems to go off when it’s supposed to. While we’re specifically referring to the Lexus IS 250 and IS 350 between the years 2005 and 2014, the information should be helpful for other models as well.
Probably the best part of this project is that it is one of the few that doesn’t actually require any tools. All you need are your hands. And if you don’t have any those, you’re probably pretty good with your feet, so we’re betting you can manage this DIY, as well.
Basically, you’re just dealing with three easy steps. Step 1: turn the car on and set the odometer to lifetime miles. Step 2: turn the car off. And step 3: press and hold the odometer button as you press the start button twice.
All the steps are explained more thoroughly in the article, as well as in the video below. So don’t be annoyed by that pesky oil light anymore. Go shut it off, and feel the satisfaction that comes from doing it yourself.
