Photo Gallery: The Stunning 2016 Lexus GS F
I recently had the chance to get behind the wheel of Lexus’s newest F machine — the stunning 2016 Lexus GS F, and it didn’t disappoint.
The core recipe for the GS F isn’t new or revolutionary, in fact, it’s kind of old. Grab the old-school (and naturally aspirated) 5.0-liter dual overhead cam V8 from the already popular RC F, attach a semi-modern 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, give it beefy Brembo brakes and staggered tires, and you’ve got yourself a Japanese muscle car that can carry the entire family.
The GS F was blistering quick on the famous Road America race track, as well as gorgeous country roads around Elkhart Lake in rural Wisconsin. Regardless of the setting, the Lexus behaved like a proper sports car, and it never minded the extra weight of being a sedan and not a sports coupe, which is sort of expected from an $87k vehicle. The 467 horsepower feel and sound strong and thunderous compared to most modern German turbocharged engines (which I also drove for comparison), and the adjustable driving modes allowed me to fine-tune the engine and transmission’s responsiveness to fit my driving preferences.
In fact, out of various Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Dodge SRT products on hand that same day, the Lexus GS F surprised me the most with its road manners at low and high speeds. It truly is a joy to drive, and put a big smile on my face.
Heck of a job, Lexus!
