Nigerian Rapper Drops Millions on Used Lexus SC 430
If this guy owns a Lexus, maybe it’s time for Kendrick Lamar to buy one.
It’s no secret that Lexus vehicles are popular among the hip hop crowd. Heck, even Kendrick Lamar waxes poetic about his years-long desire to buy one on his latest album. But now might be the time for the multi-million selling artist to go ahead and splurge, because even rappers we’ve never heard of are adding Lexus rides to their multi-car garages — even with unfavorable exchange rates.
A fella by the name of Reekado Banks (real name: Ayoleyi Hanniel Solomon) recently dropped $6 million naira on this 2010 Lexus SC 430, which seems like an impressive sum until you do the math. That huge number actually translates to just over $19,000 U.S. dollars. But Banks’ purchase made for big news over at Yabaleftonline, because in this part of the world, wealth isn’t exactly easy to come by.
Banks is no rookie to the music scene, either. The 22-year-old artist started recording at the age of 14, and was discovered through an online talent search. He went on to win Rookie of the Year at a 2014 Nigerian awards show. And Banks’ debut album, Spotlight, landed at #10 on Billboard’s World Album Music Chart.
And now he’s driving his dream car, a nicely kept, black SC 430. It’s nice to see the young man enjoying the fruits of his labors, especially after growing up with a pair of pastors for parents. Undoubtedly that strict upbringing will ensure that he’s responsible with his riches. But at least he’s willing to splurge a little. We’re looking at you, Mr. Lamar!
