Lexus LC 500 – Luxury, Sport, Or Both?
Lexus has had a few years of personal discovery, so where does it feel the LC 500 belongs now?
Lexus is one of those interesting companies that is a bit inconsistent with its cars. That’s not in terms of build quality or styling, but rather in terms of feel, which is something Motor Trend recently pointed out in a video review of the 2018 Lexus LC 500 (above). When the LC 500 was first announced, we were curious as to where it would fall in the sporting luxury coupe spectrum.
Sharing components from the F-series cars, the 5.0 V8 promises excellent performance, and the sophisticated suspension should create dynamics to match the sticky tires. All in, it looks like it could be a flagship luxury coupe that can throw a few good right hooks when it needs to. Lexus, however, sees the car in a completely different way.
All of the things mentioned above are put together in such a way to make the LC 500 a car you want to spend time in, rather than flog. Sure, it has the capability to go to 100%, but from the driver’s seat, there’s no reward for doing such a thing.
That shouldn’t cast a pall on the LC, though. The fact is, they turned the dial slightly from “sport” to “luxury,” but didn’t turn it all the way to “boring.”
