Meet Lexus Race Driver Kyle Marcelli

Team 3GT Lexus Driver Kyle Marcelli

Lexus’ newest pro driver has a busy season ahead in 2018.

Being car enthusiasts, it’s only natural that we’re racing fans, too. Just like your hometown baseball or football team, we like to root for our “home team” when it comes to racing as well. Of course we root for Lexus, and it helps when you’ve got a talented and charismatic driver behind the wheel.

Hailing from Canada, Kyle Marcelli is a young driver who has made a name for himself over his last two seasons. 2016 saw him racing full schedules in both the Weathertech SportsCar Championship and the Pirelli World Challenge, with some Trans-Am events for good measure.

That’s an incredibly busy schedule, but 2017 saw Marcelli’s fortunes swing a little too far in the other direction. Last season had him racing just a few SprintX GT Championship races and two appearances in Weathertech. In Kyle’s words, “It’s feast or famine,” according to an interview with Sportscar365.

Thankfully, this talented young driver’s fortunes have turned around considerably for 2018. That’s because Kyle will once again be running a full season in the Weathertech SportsCar Championship. This year, he finds himself behind the wheel of 3GT Racing’s Lexus RCF.

He finds himself in good company, as his teammate, Dominik Baumann, is a former FIA GT3 champ. Kyle is sure to learn a lot from his teammate, and a full schedule will give him plenty of time to hone his skills and adjust to the new car.

The RCF, sponsored by Mark Levinson, the company behind Lexus’ high-end in-car audio, is different from anything Kyle has driven previously. As Kyle says, “It does some things really well but there are other things we’re working to adjust.”

Still, he’s very optimistic about the season, and we here at Club Lexus are looking forward to cheering him on.
