Laguna Seca Debuts Major Lexus RC F GT3 Art Piece
Created by artist John Cerney, the RC F GT3 painting made its debut at the circuit’s 2019 opening weekend.
Lexus has a home at Laguna Seca, the legendary circuit in Monterey, California. There, the luxury brand is the official luxury car of the circuit, where the Lexus GS F serves as the official pace car for races at the circuit. Additionally, Lexus is able to introduce customers to its finest fleet of SUVs, crossovers, and sedans.
And if Lexus’ presence wasn’t clear enough then, it certainly is now. At last weekend’s opening weekend of the 2019 Laguna Seca racing season on March 29, the event debuted the world’s largest RC F GT3–specifically an art installation perched upon a hill at the gateway to the track.
“Cars like this are more time consuming than the normal human figures I paint,” said artist John Cerney, who is known for his massive murals of farmers and other works. “Most people can’t tell if a pair of jeans doesn’t look quite right, or if the folds in the pants are a little ‘off’, but you screw up the lines of the contour of a race car, or most any car, everyone can tell.”
With this RC F GT3, Cerney spent over three weeks painting and assembling the piece, which comes in at 26 feet wide and 12 feet high. It took 18 colors to bring this work of art of life. He adds that he took his time with the Lexus to make sure every detail was in the right place.
The RC F GT3 piece is also the largest art installation at Laguna Seca, where it overlooks the hillside alongside the Yamaha YZR500 motorcycle campaigned by Wayne Rainey, and the Ferrari 488 GT3 piloted by Cooper MacNeil.
