Lexus Melbourne Cup Features Vehicles as Art
Lexus Melbourne Cup hosts thousands of guests each year in a multi-day spectacle of lavishness and sport.
What goes into making something beautiful? When two distinctly different elements come together they often juxtapose one another in such a way that is striking, but not always appealing. Yet Lexus has partnered with some who specialize in just such a task.
Dutch florist and designer Joost Bakker has once again created a unique art piece at the Lexus Melbourne Cup. Each year the Lexus Melbourne cup showcases the best of many worlds. From equine racing and fashion to culinary and design.
For the past 15 years, Bakker has displayed his talent by creating original exhibits such as this year’s floral exhibition of the Lexus LC500 Coupe.
But upon closer inspection, the Lexus LC Coupe emblazoned with Australian flowers is a very unique and colorful design. Bakker and Lexus have brought together two diametrically opposed ingredients to create a visually compelling piece of work.
Bakker explains his process behind the design in a short clip where he shares that much of the ideas stem from the “Birdcage,” which has now come to be known as Landmark by Lexus. Landmark is a luxurious guest suite catering to guests of the Melbourne Cup with the sole purpose of allowing guests to experience the Lexus lifestyle outside of their vehicles.
“This creation of ‘Landmark by Lexus’ is our pledge to progressive luxury where people can experience the Lexus lifestyle without getting behind the wheel of one of our cars,” said Scott Thompson, Lexus Australia CEO. “For us, ‘Landmark by Lexus’ encapsulates this philosophy.”
This year’s Lexus LC coupe display provided the perfect extension of just such an experience, bridging the spectacle of art design with the brand’s latest icon.
“What I’m always trying to do is, make people think a lot deeper and truly get an experience very similar to going to an art gallery.”
Bakker’s goal was achieved with excellence. He managed to take nature and automotive luxury, two worlds seldom acquainted with each other, and meld them into a stunning exhibit.
