Lexus Key Replacement Aims to Eliminate the Stress of Lost Keys

Lexus Key Replacement

Losing a modern car key can cost you upwards of $800. Lexus intends to make that mistake sting a little less.

In the old days, losing a car key was no big deal. Simply take your spare down to the local big box store. Spend a dollar and some change, and you’re on your way. But now keys have become much more than just a hunk of metal. Which means losing them has become a much more frustrating (and expensive) endeavor. One that a brand new Lexus Key Replacement Protection product aims to smooth over.

“Today’s vehicle technology is great for consumers,” Karen Ideno, vice president of Product & Marketing, Toyota Financial Services, said in a recent press release. “Unfortunately, this sometimes comes with a high cost to replace. We know key replacement can be stressful for our customers, and we’re happy to now offer a solution.”

That solution is a joint Toyota/Lexus product that acts as an insurance policy for keys. In the event that your key is lost, stolen, or damaged, Lexus will cover you for up to $800. And if your ring held other keys, the product will cover up to three of them at $250 each. Plus, if you find yourself stranded as a result of key loss, they’ll even cover your towing expense (up to $100) and ride home (up to $75).

The Lexus Key Replacement Protection product is currently available as part of the existing tire and wheel protection package. But the automaker intends to sell it as a stand-alone product by the end of the year. With modern replacement keys running between $400 and $800 each, what was once an inexpensive mistake has quickly turned into a stressful one. But it’s nice to know that Lexus has once again gone the extra mile to make its customer’s lives a little less so.
