Lexus IS Commercial Leaves Us Terrified of the Future
This spot will have every driving enthusiast waking up in cold sweats.
We here at Club Lexus tend to be an optimistic bunch. We feel like the future holds great things. After all, one could argue that there’s no better time to be a Lexus enthusiast, or an automotive enthusiast in general. Cars just keep getting faster, more efficient, more reliable, and more comfortable. Year after year, the improvements roll in.
The only thing that truly scares us is the notion that the joy of driving will eventually be taken away from us. The rise in accidents and traffic deaths, road clogging traffic, and city choking pollution has led automakers to work feverishly developing autonomous vehicles. The self-driving cars we once only saw in movies will soon be a reality. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing depends on who you ask.
Making matters worse, this Lexus IS spot predicts that our worst fears will indeed come true. A man, riding in an autonomous vehicle across a futuristic landscape, dreams of a time when he could actually enjoy the simple pleasures of driving. Then, an ominous message presents us with a terrifying warning – “Enjoy the thrill of driving while you still can.”
For once, we’re just going to hope that Lexus is wrong here. Just thinking about their dire prediction makes us want to chain ourselves to the wheel. So if you need us, we’ll be out in the garage, slipping into a state of deep depression. Scratch that, we’ll be out enjoying some curvy mountain roads. Because the future ain’t here yet, and we hope it never comes.
