LC 500 Takes Two Design Awards at Detroit Auto Show
Ladies and gentleman, this year’s EyesOn Design Awards for Best Designed Interior and Production Car go to… the 2017 Lexus LC 500!
That’s right, the newly debuted luxury flagship 2+2 has been honored not once, but twice by the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. And we’re not just talking about a thanks-for-playing trophy, we’re talking top honors, as judged by top designers from both the auto world and academia.
This is big for Lexus, not just from a prestige standpoint, but also as a reward for following their vision through — something which the group handing out the awards, the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, can probably appreciate.
Four years ago, Lexus delivered the LF-LC concept to rave reviews, so much so that the car won the 2012 EyesOn Design Award for best concept. People loved the design, and Lexus knew it. So they committed to that design, or at least something close to it, even though that put a lot of pressure on the engineering team to make performance a reality within such beautiful confines.
Now, Lexus is celebrating both groups, right down to the LC 500 copy on the Lexus website:
“Visual appeal is defined by an athletic aerodynamic shape, with sensuous curves, emotional forms, an optional flowing carbon-fiber roof, creating a low, wide imposing stance that come together for a highly functional, passionate package.”
The LC 500 represents the perfect marriage of the design team and the engineering team, and though the plaques may say “EyesOn Design Award,” you can bet the engineering team is sharing equal pride.
