Joyriding Teen Leads Police on High-Speed Chase in Aunt’s Lexus
We understand the appeal of ‘spirited’ driving in a Lexus, but this isn’t the way to do it.
We’ve all been there. You’re nothing but an overeager teenager, eyeballing a relative’s ride and dreaming of flogging it on the open road. You’ve been waiting literally your entire life to translate your mad gaming skills to the real world. So when said relative is out of town or at work, you grab the spare keys to the Lexus and head out.
If you’re lucky, you’ll return the car in one piece and no one will ever know about your little test drive. If you’re not so lucky, you could wreck the car or arouse the suspicion of the local constabulary. Or, in the case of one very unlucky Connecticut teen, you could just wind up the subject of a high speed police chase.
According to the Darien Daily Voice, that’s exactly what happened after a 16-year-old decided to take a ride in his aunt’s Lexus recently. The incident occurred sometime before 3 a.m., when the teen probably figured that she wouldn’t notice that her Lexus was missing. But she did. And apparently, she also knew who took it.
Not only did the aunt notify police but she was able to help locate the Lexus by tracking her nephew’s phone using a “find my phone” app. Soon, police spotted the car doing 90 in a 55 mph zone. The trooper lit up the speeding Lexus and the teen pulled over. But when the cop approached, he took off.
A frantic pursuit followed, with the Lexus blowing through two red lights. Police eventually stopped the teen, who now may have a criminal record before he gets his license. So, let this story serve as a warning to would-be teen drivers. There’s a right way and a wrong way to enjoy a Lexus. And this ain’t the right way.
