Baby Driver: 10-Year-Old Boy Takes Lexus on 37-mile Joyride
No one was hurt, but the kid and his 7-year-old passenger did total the Lexus. And they’re probably going to bed without dessert.
Two joyriding kids in Goochland County, Virginia are probably going to be grounded until their 40s. A 10-year old boy and his 7-year old passenger took their guardian’s Lexus for a joyride. Amazingly, the boys made it 37 miles on Interstate 64 before they were stopped by law enforcement. But not before crashing the Lexus sedan into a median. They two little guys escaped without harm, but we’re guessing they won’t be allowed to drive even a Big Wheel for a long, long time.
The boys’ guardians woke up to discover that both the boys and the Lexus missing. They immediately called police. Shortly thereafter, a call came into the police reporting a Lexus driving erratically on I-64. The police blocked an upcoming exit ramp with a police cruiser. When the boys approached, the kid driver accidentally backed into another car before crashing into a median. No one was injured, and the boys were returned home safely. They told police they were planning on driving to the beach.
Steve Parrish, of Andrew Parrish Towing, told WTVR News about the unusual scene he encountered when he responded to the call for a tow truck.
“They just tell you they got an accident, you don’t expect something like this. You get there you see grown-ups. You don’t expect a 10-year-old to be driving a car,” said Parrish.
Parrish was shocked to see that a 10-year-old boy made it that far on the interstate. Parrish noted that the front seats were pushed all the way up, and a state trooper told him they had been pretty safe, considering.
“He said, ‘You wouldn’t believe it, they had their seat belt[s] on,'” said Parrish. “Most people don’t wear their’s, but they had their seat belt on.”
We will give these lil’ guys credit, they do have good taste in cars.
