2017 Lexus LS Mule Shots Finally Give Us Something to Talk About

We all know that a new generation 2017 Lexus LS is finally coming down the pipe, destined to wow a showroom near you in 2016, but we’ve had very few details about what that car will look like. Well, we still don’t have very many details, but we do have more than we had last week.

The current generation LS, the marque’s flagship model, will be 10-years-old by the time the next generation comes out. Though such an important car shouldn’t be rushed, the lack of news is beginning to get us a little antsy, not that we don’t trust the brass at Lexus. But now, thanks to these new mule shots from Japan’s Mag-X, we at least have something to ease our nervous minds.

The mule shots hide the under-workings of the new gen model under a piecemeal assortment of body parts from the current model year. It’s not much, but we can at least gather “that the new LS will feature similar proportions to the current model but with a slightly wider track,” according to MotorAuthority.

It’s hard to glean much more from these photos, as our astute Club Lexus member, Mr. Burns, points out:

“Guys it’s a mule, a mule means none of the bodywork you see has anything to do with the final design. It’s a collection of existing bits and pieces grafted together to cover up the underpinnings. The only things we can tell are proportion related, i.e. wheelbase, width, etc…”

But there is a bit more news to get excited about. Lexus recently trademarked the following: LS 500 and LS 500h. Which leads one to believe MotorAuthority’s previous reports that the new LS will feature the 5.0-liter V-8 found in the RC F and GS F, and that the h version will be a roughly 500hp hybrid setup, similar to the LF-LC concept.

Regardless of what happens, it’s a safe bet that the next gen LS is going to be every bit the flagship the model’s always been.
