$200 1993 ES 300 Drives as if it’s Brand-New
Bird feces and bras can be removed. It’s what’s under the hood that counts!
If you’re someone that loves to scan Craigslist, or any other vehicle buying and selling website, for cars and trucks, you probably have seen those listings that seem absolutely ridiculous. Cars that sell for only a couple hundred dollars, that look like complete garbage, but are listed with “runs great, just needs ____.” These people must wait for complete suckers to come by and purchase their junk.
Tyler Hoover is one of those suckers. His YouTube channel is filled with what he calls “suicidal” vehicle purchases. He makes videos detailing what exactly you get when you pay only a few hundred dollars for a vehicle, sight unseen. In a recent video, above, Hoover buys a 1993 Lexus ES300 for a whopping $200 and wonders if this car will actually drive the 300 miles home. The answer will surely surprise you.
The 1993 Lexus was sold to him from a viewer that is an older gentleman who won’t be able to drive any longer. What drew Hoover to the vehicle was the fact that it was a rare ES300 with a 5-speed manual transmission, that he imagines is only one of a few hundred that were produced. When Hoover comes up to the car, he notices a couple things, immediately – the sheer amount of bird poop and the “bra.” Looks aside, will this car start and make it 300 miles home? Surprisingly, yes it will! Easily, in fact.
Hoover describes the way the Lexus ES 300 drives as “perfect.” After new tires, bra removal, and a detail, the ES300 looks as good as it did the day it was sold. In fact, the interior of the vehicle is about as immaculate as you can expect from a 25-year-old vehicle. And with only 135,000 miles, Hoover just doesn’t want to get rid of it.
This video is proof of two things. First, you never know what you can expect just from looking at the car. Clearly, at least in this case, you can never judge a car by the amount of bird poop on it. And secondly, as many of us on this website know, Lexus makes a damn fine automobile. If you just keep up the maintenance and treat the vehicle well, then there’s no reason that your Lexus can’t last for decades.
