Lexus made the alternative subcompact crossover first as an exercise and now has given it the green light for showrooms in the near future.

1. Bait for younger buyers

Straight from the Japanese luxury makers' mouth, the UX concept that received some polarizing reviews is now headed to production. The mouth from Lexus that you can pin this bit of news on is none other than International Executive Vice President Yoshihiro Sawa, who believes that the UX will help to pull in younger buyers to the brand.

2. Another vehicle in the fray

The UX concept hit the world stage last year at the 2016 Paris Auto Motor Show as a compact model that would slot right under the NX. UX stands for user experience and that's exactly what Lexus is aiming the subcompact crossover at being centered around. In a segment crowded with the likes of the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA and Infiniti QX30 the UX looks to stand out from the crowd.

3. Body specs

Compared to the NX, the UX is just over 5 inches lower, 1.2 inches wider, and has almost an inch tighter wheelbase. With an exterior that is as busy as this, we see why Lexus is offering the robust people mover to a younger generation of buyers that may be more in pace with the angular appearance. Of course, since this is a Lexus there is a healthy amount of "L-finesse" DNA to be spotted in the in the lines of the vehicle.

4. Creature Comforts 2.0

Inside the UX, there will be a digital display for the driver that looks to resemble a floating hologram. The instrument panel plays with depth perception by being made to look farther than it really is. The infotainment system now has multiple screens under a covered center console with touch-screen buttons. Another note on the infotainment display is that it uses an interesting carousel style menu system to lay out all options for driver and passenger.

5. Seats bordering on psychic

We know what you are thinking. Yes, you are supposed to sit on those things that appear to be bands of material stretched out over the frame of a seat. Your parent's SUV this is not. The haphazard weave of bands is something Lexus is calling Kinetic Seating which is supposed to be better for you as it will be able to contour to the pelvis and torso in a way that normal seats cannot. There is also a wireless speaker that detaches from the dash for the passenger if they wish to take some music outside the car in a nearby area.

With the UX now in Lexus's arsenal, the brand has another vehicle with which to ingrain itself as the dominant luxury choice for a younger crowd.
