Pinnacle of Japanese Performance

For fans of Japanese muscle, Toyota's 2JZ represents the very pinnacle of performance. And that engine also undoubtedly plays a large role in the absurd popularity enjoyed by the JZA80 Supra. But as this Lexus GS400 recently featured at DSport Magazine proves, the 2JZ works pretty darn well in other cars, too.

Supreme Potential

The two major reasons the 2JZ is so legendary are the fact that it's virtually bulletproof and that it's easy to make huge power with. These engines can easily handle 800+ horsepower with stock internals, which is obviously supremely impressive.

Huge Power

Thus, the 2JZ, for many GS owners, is a dream swap. This particular job was completed by SP Engineering, and it's quite masterful. The fact that it cranks out 854 horsepower at the wheels just expounds upon their excellent craftsmanship.

Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

That's quite the jump from the stock 4.0-liter V8's meager 260 hp, making this GS a real wolf in sheep's clothing. From the outside, nothing (except maybe the outrageous exhaust note) would tip anyone off as to what's going on underneath.

Shiny Huffers

HKS supplied the majority of goods needed to make this all happen. The main power adder, of course, is that shiny pair of GT-Series ball-bearing 3037S turbochargers.

Feed the Beast

HKS also supplied the stainless-steel exhaust manifolds, GT Series high-performance wastegates, and an HKS EVC electronic boost controller. The beast is fed adequate fuel by 20B in-tank pumps and a dual-inlet fuel rail.

Beefed Up

The block of this beastly 2JZ is stock, but the internals have been fortified for strength. Those components include JE Pistons and Carillo rods, though the crankshaft is stock.

Go Fast Goodies

Other go-fast goodies include HKS 272 camshafts and a Portflow reworked cylinder head. A Blitz intercooler keeps temperatures under control, while the Ferrea valvetrain ensures everything is working in sync.

Four-Door Rocketship

Backed up by a Supra-sourced 6-speed manual, there's no doubt this Lexus is fast. Somewhat surprisingly, the GS400 is only 500 pounds heavier than that highly touted car, in fact. Thus, the four-door rocketship should rip off 10s in the quarter-mile with ease.

Don't Sleep

We've seen a few 2JZ-swapped Lexus GS sedans before, but few have been as fortified as this one. With a careful selection of parts and a nearly-stock appearance, this is one sedan that you certainly won't want to sleep on.
