This article applies to the Lexus IS (2005-2013).

Dome lights provide enough light to help you read maps, find items on the ground of the car, or simply get into and out of the dark safely. Like most car lights, dome lights may burn out over time and will require replacement. Fortunately, it is relatively simple to replace the dome light on your Lexus. You may choose to replace the light with the same kind you had before, or go with something different like LED, as long as it fits properly.

Tool and Material Needed

  • Flathead screw driver
  • New bulb

Step 1 - Locate tabs

In many cars the tabs lie in the back towards the rear of the dome light. You should be able to easily see the tabs, which will help you determine what to do next.

Step 2 - Remove the tabs

Stick the screwdriver in the little groove, and pry the tabs open carefully.

Step 3 - Pull off light cover and replace light

Simply pull on the cover with enough force until it comes off. Although you should pull firmly, be careful not to break or crack the cover as you are removing it. Once the cover is off, replace the light with one from Lexus or a dome light of your choice.

Step 4 - Replace dome light cover

Once the light is securely in place and you've tested it to ensure it works, you need to replace the dome light cover. To do this, simply reverse the steps you took to remove it. For example, place the light cover on top of the light first, then use little to no force to secure it into place. Once the cover is on, check the dome light once more to ensure it works properly.
