does the wheel with the crack still hold air and what are the negative effects of a cracked wheel(why is it bad)? sorry if that is a stupid question, i just dont know

my friend had rims with a crack and he had it welded at a junk yard for 30 bucks
never had a problem...but my rim will prob need to be resufaced and re chromed
i got a qoutes for around 250 to fix ..or u can simpy order a new rim if u search.
