Engine Covers vinyl wrapping
didn't know where to put this, so VIP it is!
So I've seen a lot of talk about people wanting to wrap there engine covers, but not many people actually going through with it. I'm assuming that no one wants to spend the money to find out that it doesn't take the heat, stretching, and what not... I work at a sign shop so decided to post up my install pics in case anyone else is searching for such a thing. I'll keep everyone updated as to how it holds up.

once vinyl is layed. I used heat to stretch the vinyl around the corners. Then it's trimmed to size with an exacto. This step is the most important so if you're doing this at home, listen! make sure to trim atleast a .25in to a .5in over the actual edge. That way it can be wrapped around the edge itself to the back side. this is important especially in the areas that are stretched a lot. If you don't, the vinyl will pull back when the heat from the motor gets at it. also, make sure to clean the **** out of everything with alcohol first! This will remove oils and residue. After, try not to touch the panels with bare hands as it will get oild back on it too. the most common reason for vinyl wraps failing is the install prep...

My original plan was to paint them with the same design, but that would take forever. I still plan on painting them if the vinyl fails. Also, need a new compressor for my airbrush, so that project is kinda on hold anyways.

hopefully it will last. I remember when i did my 3m training, they said it was good up to about 200 degrees before anything would happen to it. I guess there's really only one way to find out lol... that was also like 10 years ago, so that vinyl by now(knowing how 3m does things) is probably higher quality now, maybe? Anyway, it's printed on 3m control tac i think it's version4. and I am positive version1 was good to 200 degrees. So keeping my fingers crossed.
