Yep, I bought Tommy's car a long time ago, kept it for about 2 years or so. You were one of my inspirations on picking up an Lexus for sure though, haha.
Dark colors are basically mirrors, they pick up everything and anything in the reflection. The key to great photography (which the OP has demonstrated) is to reduce any background noise while capturing these images. Shadows and color shifts should reflect the natural body lines of a car.
It's not about camera gear, it's about composition and moving your feet. It's amazing what a slight position change can do to your images. A lot of people would assume broad daylight would be best to shoot pictures; this is false. Best times are to shoot during sunrise or sunset to prevent "hot spots" on the surface of the car and to minimize reflections.
Nice explanation, that's a lot more in depth than what I was trying to say.

Word dude, I am glad I was able to inspire somebody to go the vip route as well. You'll definitely have to bring it out to some of my ISO meets.
