Question Tires question

I was wondering if anyone could give me a little insight on tires. I am looking to buy new tires. i have currently 235/45/17 with the OEM gs 17's. Are 225/45/17 and 245/40/17 size tires bigger(how and how much), or smaller? I am looking for some thick rubber for cushion. I am thinking 245/45/17's are ideal for the 17x8 gs wheels. Or what is the biggest size I can use? I want to get the widest and highest tires I can use to improve comfort.

Thanks,

Rock

Cool BTW

I am running the tein flex 1.5" clearance in front, and 2.5" clearance in the rear.

Default Tires

Rock,
here's the story on the tires:

235 is the width of the tire in mm, 45 is the aspect ratio as a percent of the width so in this case 45% of 235mm and the 17 you know. 225/45 is smaller in height and width, 245/40 is wider but not nearly as tall. I currently am running 245/45/17 with an L-Tuned setup. There is definitely a bit more cushion, but still better than the 225/55/16's from a sporty ride perspective. I think you'd be fine with the 245/45, but I'm not sure how much wider you can go with the stock 17X8's.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. So you are saying that the 245/45 is a little better ride than the stock 16's??? Or are you saying sporty wise it is better? I am sure of that it is, or did you mean better "ride" with the 245/45 over the stock 16's... I mean those are pretty comfy I am sure even with the Tein drop no??

Rock , I compared 2 MPS A/S 235/45/17 & 245/45/17 and they were the same height but the 245 was just a touch wider. I saw someone running 245/45/17 on a GS and I think it looked a little better than the stock size.

Default Tires

Ok, thanks for the input.... Anyone know if there is such a thing as a 245/50/17? And can I use that on the GS with the stock 17's???? I am using the 25mm H&R's in the rear.

Rock

BTW, been running the H&R's for almost a year now and I believe I have no issues. I did wear out my rear tires before the front, but I don't know if it is due to the spacers.... handling wise though, no problems at all.

More sporty than the 16's, not as rough as the 235/45/17 OEMs.

Default Tires

Sounds like the 245/45's are the way to go then.... Unless there is a bigger tire. Now... How about best tires for the money in value and performance. I do not do any aggressive driving, but like the zr's and preferance to an aggressive tread pattern(as with the toyo proxes) .
