18x8.5 with 275.
I'm looking at a set of awesome set of 4 wheels 18x8.5. My car is a 1992 SC400.
I tried to get staggered but in the 18's they only come in the 18x8.5 and 17's won't clear my supra front brake upgrade.
Since I can't have the wheels to be staggered I would like to have the tires give the effect of being staggered.
anyone with good knowledge please advise what I should do for tires. I do drive 85 miles of NYC pothole haven so the maximum sidewall without rubbing would be optimal.
2xx/xx/18 in the front
2xx/xx/18 in the rear.
thank you.

An 8.5 " wide wheel is below the minimum allowable width for any 275 tire- you'd need a MINIMUM of a 9", and a 9.5" is optimal. Dodge Vipers actually use an 18x10 with their OE 275/35-18.
For a 'correct' size for the SC, use 245/40-18. If you want a taller sidewall, you could use 245/45-18. We refer to this as the "buffalo tire" set-up: it looks sort of... beefy.
Sorry, I can't (in good conscience) recommend any decent staggered tire widths for the 18x8.5.
